Xiao Yao for alopeciaXiao Yao Pian (free & easy wanderer) is a well known Chinese herbal medicine used for liver Qi stagnation. Xiao Yao Pian is among the most commonly used Chinese formulas today. It is a widely used prescription for treating anxiety, irritability, stress, depression, baldness, menopausal syndrome, and premenstrual tension. Men and women both have used this formula with great success. Has also been used to treat headache, sinus pressure, and low level pain throughout the body. Actions of formula?
The function of Xiao Yao Pian is to help overcome the ingrained personal approach of clashing with, rather than flowing around, a difficulty that is encountered. Poor attitude or negative outlook influences a person's flow of Qi and blood, causing it to flow erratically and bind up. In the Chinese model of health and disease, the free flow of Qi and blood is the requirement for health, and the obstructed flow of Qi and blood is a cause for disease. The obstruction of circulation corresponds to both a physical stagnation (repression of natural movement) and the psychological condition we call depression, the sense of inability to move and change or to overcome obstacles. Xiao Yao Pian disperses the stagnated liver Qi, and invigorates the spleen to nourish blood. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Qi is the vital energy whose smooth flow around the body keeps the body and its organs working in harmony. When the flow of Qi is stagnated, the affected organs will malfunction. In case of liver Qi stagnation, one typically feels distending pain along the sides of the body (especially in the chest), easily gets upset, depressed, loses hair, gets migraines, and has irregular, painful menstruation or swollen breasts for woman.

Xiao Yao Pian is indicated in China Pharmacopoeia for soothing the liver and strengthening the spleen, tonifying the blood and regulating menstruation. The formula embodies the medical principles of tonifying and dispersing in a balanced manner. The herbs benefit spleen and the liver, the two organs that are commonly involved in disharmony of Qi circulation.
